Simple Red Sauce

Three main ingredients bring this sauce together: garlic, canned diced tomatoes and a broth of your choice. Add your favorites seasonings and you are good to go! Toss with cooked chicken, shrimp, eggplant, pasta, or mixed vegetables.

Servings 4 for topping of main dishes

Equipment

  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 spoon or spatula
  • 1 garlic press a chefs knife and cutting board work if you don't have a press

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 cloves diced garlic optional.
  • 1 14 ounce can diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup stock consider your pairing or dietary restrictions. Chicken, seafood, or vegetable stock all work well
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Β½ tsp pepper
  • Β½ tsp dried basil optional
  • ΒΌ tsp dried oregano optional
  • ΒΌ tsp dried thyme optional
  • spices of choice

Instructions
 

  • If adding garlic, peel and dice your garlic
  • Add olive oil to saucepan and bring saucepan to medium heat
  • add garlic and cook until garlic is fragrant
  • add diced tomatoes, add all your chosen spices, and stir
  • add stock, stir. Let it cook over the medium heat until it begins to boil. Set to low heat/simmer
  • let simmer, uncovered, until desired consistency, usually 5-10 minutes
  • toss with your protein/pasta or plate your protein/pasta and spoon sauce over top
